Suspected herdsmen kill 15, raze houses in Benue

Makurdi — About 15 persons were stressed dead, history, and numerous others missing after suspected fortified herders attacked Igama vill in Edumoga Ehaje community, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the raiders, who stormed the community,Sen. Abba Moro’s home city, in their figures at about 7 am, also razed and pulled down all the houses in the besieged community.

According to the source, “ They raided Igama this morning( Sunday) when the people were preparing to attend church services. They came well fortified and anyone they caught up with was killed.

“ Though we can not precisely say the number of persons killed because corses

are still being recovered and from the information we have, 15 people may have been killed and several others are still missing. Nine corses

have so far been recovered but the hunt for further of the corses is ongoing, ”

communicated, Chairman of the council, Mrs Amina Audu, who verified the incident, lamented that the attack was unprovoked.

Audu, who said she was at the Divisional Police Office at Okpoga, the original government headquarters, to admit the recovered corses of those killed, said a aggregate of nine corses

had been moved to the mortuary while the hunt for further was ongoing and would continue into the night as numerous were still missing and unaccounted for.

Audu, who reprobated the attack, said the fortified herdsmen stormed the community in their hundreds.

She said “ I’m at the Okpoga Police Station as I speak with you and I can confirm that we’ve entered nine corses that have been moved to the mortuary but the number could be far further than that because we learned they chased the people into the backwoods and killed them there.

“ The fortified herdsmen raided the community about 7 am moment( history). The people ran for their lives and anyone they caught was killed.

“ Besides, they also pulled down all the houses in Igama community.

“ Affected women and children have also been taken to Ojapo, the ward headquarters for safety and I’m heading there to insure that they’re in good condition. ”

Communicated, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catharine Anene, who verified the development said “ I’m yet to admit details from officers, who went to the scene. ”

 Two NSCDC labor force, two others killed in Benue communities by fortified herders

Two labor force of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and two others have been reportedly killed in separate attacks on communities in Makurdi and Logo Local Government Areas, LGAs, of Benue State.

It was gathered from sources that the security labor force were waylaid and killed by the fortified herdsmen at the waterside of Nyiongu community in the outskirts of Makurdi while on duty, Friday evening.

 

“ The herdsmen ambuscaded them while on command in the area. They opened fire on the van conveying them, killing two in the process while others who sustained projectile injuries were rushed to the sanitarium. They were members of the Agro Rangers of NSCDC, ” he said.

Meanwhile a community leader in Logo LGA who spoke on condition of obscurity bared that suspected fortified herdsmen on the same day also attacked Tse Tune community in Turan Council Ward of the LGA where they killed two of the victims in their granges.

According to him, “ the victims of the attack are Terkende Injarwua and Mfaiga Ukor who were working on their granges when they were attacked and killed. After the attack the assaulters as usual fled the community. But their corses were recovered and buried on Friday. ”

communicated the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Michael Ejelikwu promised to issue a formal statement on the incident but at the time of this report he was yet to do so.

On her part the Police Public Relations Officer, supervisor, SP, Catherine Anene said she was yet to admit the report.
